Message-ID: <49F23DAE.F37020C8@nrubsig.org> Hi! ---- Did anyone thought about creating an OpenSolaris.org booth for CommunityOne West in SFBay (see http://developers.sun.com/events/communityone/2009/west/) ? * The idea would be to create a booth for the following purposes: - Representing OpenSolaris.org and it's communities and projects - Place for help/assientance for OpenSolaris user newbies (even those who come with a laptop and quickly want to install OpenSolaris) - Place for people who want to contribute to OpenSolaris.org (e.g. people who didn't contribute to OpenSolaris yet) - Place for OpenSolaris.org developers to exchange ideas and try out stuff - Place to sit down and talk about OpenSolaris * What would be needed: 1. Funding (for: - the location - renting various booth furniture/booth itself - internet (_wire_, not wlan)/power access - Cookies, bottles of water and tea (out of experience that several days of booth service drives people mad if they only "run" on coffee) - computers (both x86+SPARC) - networked PostScript printer+paper - two or more whiteboards - OpenSolaris.org CDs, DVDs, USB sticks with OpenSolaris.org LiveCD, MilaX, SXCE etc. etc. - Banner stuff with the OpenSolaris.org logo - Project-specific posters describing the projects - Flyers - <... more details later on demand...> ) 2. Several computers, monitors, switches, cables, a PostScript printer etc. At least one machine should be equipped with the abilty to run tests+do some development/hacking (e.g. T1000 with LDOMs and enougth memory+disk space) 3. Layout: Non-traditional "L"-shape booth layout to create an "edge" and a set of small tables clustered at one end of the "L" (that people can sit down and discuss stuff without being "run over" by people visting the booth), e.g. ###### #PPPP#W tables # #W | # # | # # <--- front Y # # ### ### ### ### # # # # # # # # # # # # ### ### ### ### # ####################### # #XX ############################ Notes: - XX="Pile of bags" - PP="Small private section" for people to take a nap - WW="Whiteboards" - Area under the front side of booth is used to store stuff like water-bottles, bookies, paper and misc. other stuff - Area above the front side of booth is used for booth work, including computer access (additionally every 2nd table has computer access, too) 4.Staff: We need volunteers to staff the booth (preferably with some kind of rotation that noone has to be at the booth for longer than 2-3 hours maximum). 5. <... insert more stuff ...> ---- Bye, Roland P.S.: Please keep the discussion in the OGB and/or Summit lists and not the advocacy ones. -- __ . . __ (o.\ \/ /.o) roland.mainz at nrubsig.org \__\/\/__/ MPEG specialist, C&&JAVA&&Sun&&Unix programmer /O /==\ O\ TEL +49 641 3992797 (;O/ \/ \O;) From Dan.Roberts at Sun.COM Fri Apr 24 16:28:50 2009 From: Dan.Roberts at Sun.COM (Dan Roberts) Date: Fri, 24 Apr 2009 16:28:50 -0700 Subject: [opensolaris-summit] CommunityOne West booth... We'll actually have 7 pods for OpenSolaris at CommunityOne and JavaOne, along with a separate OpenSolaris install lounge with experts to help answer additional questions and walk folks through the install process (we'll also have folks from Toshiba there showing the laptops and Rock Band 2 on Playstation 3 to help relax folks), 3 tracks of sessions, an OpenSolaris party to cap off CommunityOne, and an OpenSolaris deep dive the next day. The pods will focus on 2009.06, Porting SW to OpenSolaris, Testing with OpenSolaris, Open Networking, Open Storage, Open HA Cluster, and the OpenSolaris Web Stack. Oh, and the opening Keynote for C1 will of course include the launch of 2009.06 I'm sure... :) Lots going on there, Lynn Rohrer gave an update during the Townhall this morning so I'm sure she can provide a bit more details. I need to submit a paper & proposal to the KCA organizers though, so stay tuned. -- Garrett Garrett D'Amore wrote: > Dan Roberts wrote: >> The event is free so all are invited, though obviously a trip to SF >> is required... :-) > > I'd have to get funding.
