[storage-discuss] [Q] What causes the AVS error, "failed to read remote state"?

I am running two Nevada systems (snv_86) under VMware Fusion. I have RAIDz2 pool being managed by sndr and the systems had been functioning fine in replicating mode. I told the primary to  go into logging mode, but when I couldn't import the zfs pool, i.e., the command hangs, I knew something was wrong.

/var/adm/messages reports for each disk, a similar message:

sndr: nevada2:/dev/rdsk/c1t4d0s0 entered logging mode: failed to read remote state

Neither sndradm -P nor dsstat seem to be aware that something is wrong.

I had the primary to do a full resynchronization, which completed with no problem, and when I went back into logging mode, the error reappears.

This error doesn't appear to be listed in the troubleshooting guide.
