[trademark-policy-dev] Please check and reread the wiki - have I captured everything the way y'all intended it to be?

Now that most of us have converged (Yea!!!), I'd like to double check that
I captured all the open issues on the wiki:

http://www.genunix.org/wiki/index.php/Trademark_usage_and_Branding_guideline

  ISSUES

    1. ISSUE At this point in time, nevada is what we have, and indiana is
an undefined future possibility. How can people today use the OpenSolaris
marks without implying that they are using/doing indiana?
           * I think this is a transitory issue that will go away soon... -John

    2. TODO: Sun seems to want to use the branding to support the concept of "allowed
to use the OpenSolaris trademark so that they could form an ecosystem of
compatible software package and services"; the earlier discussions around
a "core" and/or "test suites" are valuable, but probably too low level.
(See the parking lot issues on the discussion page).
           * compatibility will be easier to evolve and the extended community
has more latitude if it is defined as "can install and run packages
from the repository and can create packages to go into a repo",
rather than "includes the IPS system as implemented by Sun".
           * Can individual community members compile an IPS distro from the
opensolaris.org source tree and still call the result OpenSolaris?

    3. NEED TO VERIFY: Sun's position seems to be that it does not intend for
any other distribution to use the bare name OpenSolaris to refer to itself.

    4. NEED TO VERIFY: if some community group wanted to start selling an OS based
on opensolaris, would they be permitted to do that while retaining the
right to use the name? I think this ought to be clarified in no uncertain
terms, because I get the impression that the name isn't up for grabs for
commercial uses, only for community/nonprofit uses. Particularly commercial
uses that compete directly with Sun's products (that would be, an operating
	system)

    5. NEED: There is a need for icons and logos that can be used for non-web-page
stuff, like grub boot, VM desktop icons.

    6. NEED: There is a need for icons and logos that can be used for favicon/web,
"powered by" and "runs on" usage.

    7. CLARIFY: What is Sun's position on commercial distros using one of the
	OpenSolaris trademarks?

If I captured your issue poorly, please feel free to edit the wiki page directly
and correct/clarify what exactly needs to be answered. Starting on Monday, I will
take these issues to the trademark lawyers and Sun's executive management and try
to obtain clarification and answers. Keep me in your prayers and wish me luck ;-)

If you haven't yet chimed in, and have a perspective that we haven't yet
beaten to death, now is the time to inject it. I promise that Shawn will be
nice to you :-)

Thank you *all* for your time, passion, patience and energy - I think we are making
good progress and are well on the way towards creating a platform that can support
the both the community's and Sun's needs and desires!

   -John
