Incidentally, I did some *unscientific* performance testing of gcc 3.4
by compiling the similar source bases on BeleniX, FreeBSD and Ubuntu.

FreeBSD was the fastest and BeleniX a close second in most cases. Quite
surprisingly Linux generally lagged both BSD and Solaris. Maybe using
the John Birrell's Dtrace-able FreeBSD kernel we can isolate where BSD
scores - either I/O or CPU or something else ...
