To add more, Solaris Express is a complete OS...kernel, userland and many
more tools.
The whole stack of source, excluding few components, are released under
CDDL.
Whereas Linux is a kernel. Many distributions use GNU free software on top
of it.
Most of those GNU tools are also available for Solaris.
