hi,

i have some experience in device driver as well as application
programming(Qt) on GNU/Linux.
i am familar with linux installations also.

when i was newbie to linux, i tried some linux device driver examples which
is given in Linux Device driver book by Alessandro Rubini and Jonathan
Corbet and freely available in the internet. Some parallel port examples
also there to deal with hardware without putting much effort...

But in case of solaris, i am a newbie. so i want to follow the same
way which i used to approach linux...
because i think, it will be easier for me to study solaris. so i want to try
same parallel port example in solaris also...............

as a first step, i have downloaded solaris express, and installed on intel
p3 machine.
first of all, i am not able to customize my machine as per my wish, which i
am doing execllently with linux.
Reason is, i am not aware of solaris docs available, not able to
differentiate them and don't know how to approach them....

there are many device driver tutorial on the web, spread over
sun.com/downloads and opensolaris.org
and so many guides for DTrace also.

so any can suggest some begginner documents, to get in to solaris.....

my request is ....

try to provide link for the docs, sequentially order them, and tell me what
i can learn from that.
because i am finding lot of docs in the sun web site, open solaris web
site and not able to find the correct one...... so pls......

my need is .............

1.. how to customize packages while installing..

2.. little solaris administration like mounting other
partitions(ext3,vfat), setting up network

3.. file system concepts....

4.. little solaris os concepts.

5.. how to start device driver programming.....

6.. a begginer guide to DTrace, which should be useful to debug driver code
also..........

i think this much enough for the first step, if i missed anything, please
correct me............

and this will be useful for all other members in this group also

thanks
Ashok
