I actually agree with that author.

In fact, you could keep other Solaris lists posted on the latest
happening on the OLPC list. And ask folks on one list to help out on
other lists if the situation so demands it.

A split is confusing, at cross purpose to the motive of common
discussion, and a distribution of energy.

Separately, you would actually learn much much more on that list
simply because there'll be far more people there than in a Solaris
specific OLPC list. By discussion Solaris there, you'll actually get
more people interested in Solaris and get a wider range of opinions
than purely Solaris specific folks talking amongst ourselves.

If you observe at the Bosug meets, we've sometimes more Sun folks than
non-Sun folks. Despite this, there's much learning happening there
amongst the Sun folks themselves. Imagine how much a non-Sun person
would benefit. And now imagine how much more one would get to learn at
an OLPC specific list from various gurus, some of whom may not be
interested in Solaris, but have much to contribute in their individual
capacity.

While no one will really stop you from discussing Open Solaris and
OLPC in a dedicated list, you merely lose on the larger number of
eyeballs that'll have seen your mails on larger lists.

Instead, if you were to be a Solaris ambassador at OLPC, and an OLPC
ambassador at Open Solaris communities, you have growth, popularity
and larger networks to look forward to.
