Hi Pushkar,
What I would really like is a generic library (and maybe some small
utilities) which can read and write ODF files. A lot of times,
I would like to read ODF files without having to open them up in
StarOffice or OpenOffice, like for example, from my console-based
mail client. Being able to generate an ODF document from the
command-line would also be extremely useful. Would make for a good
project, IMO.
You can find the specs for the OpenDocument format here:
http://www.oasis-open.org/specs/index.php#opendocumentv1.0
Since the ODF format is basically XML, it would not be very complex
to implement. There are apparently some java libraries available
for doing this, but I'm not aware of any good ones. I am basically
looking for something on the lines on wvWare for MS Word documents:
http://wvware.sourceforge.net/
Like Ananth mentioned, I would not spend too much on either .sxw or
.doc files. The former will be obsoleted by the OpenDocument format
and the latter should hopefully die soon! :)
Venky.
PS: I am primarily looking at ODT files (OpenDocument Text
documents), but it might be interesting to extend it to the
other formats too.
