On my box that needs a Broadcom driver from the Broadcam site, I face
the same issue.

Pradhap had diagnosed the problem as being a slow startup by the
driver, by which time the dhcp/whatever times out.

I use manual startup mode too, and will have to do so until I figure
out for myself have to extend the dhcp time out/speed up the driver
initialization/delay the dhcp startup.
