Hey Anand,

You should have used the Installer DVD and got a shell. From there you 
should have mounted the Filesystem on your hard disk and then edited 
/etc/passwd. Or you could have done the same by booting in the Failsafe 
mode from grub - its still simpler - the failsafe kernel automatically 
mounts the filesystem on your hard disk under /a
