   I don't think so. It appears to be the old mechanism that Solaris used to
   use till we added ZFS support in GRUB bootloader. Essentially have
   a tiny boot slice with UFS where the initrd and the kernel resides, so
   that the bootloader can pick it up. The configuration is setup to point
   to the real root filesystem on the other larger slice. This configuration
   is picked up by the kernel.
