Yes, Sun officially supports Redhat3.x and Centos, but people in the
community tried out various other distributions.

for example someone installed gentoo brand. see this thread:
http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=18839&tstart=15

A suse brand:
http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=5127&tstart=150

Installing various distributions based on opensolaris:
http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=5481&tstart=0
http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=5483&tstart=135
http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=5484&tstart=135

Basically you need 2.4.21 Linux kernel with glibc version 2.3.2
Ubuntu based on this kernel might work.
Not sure whether anyone tried it out. but there has been a discussion
sometime ago on a ubuntu Brand

(for information about configuring and installing zones/BrandZ with resource
management this document is useful

Hi sriram,

Thanks for reply. Now problem is sorted .just to answer your question I
have installed Solaris express. And I was trying to create user, using
the user Administrator GUI.

The reason of installing Solaris was to try ZONES(OFCOURSE inspired by
your seminar in SUN TECH DAYS).

I configured brandZ zones successfully but when I tried to install
Linux, Came to know that it only supports REDHAT3.x and CentOS
(disappointed) Becuase I am addicted to ubuntu.

Well Why It only supports those two. Why not
UBUNTU, SUSE, Maderick because my draw is filled with these version of
linux. REDHAT is now chargeable and CentOS I neverd heard before.

Any plans to make zones more flexible. Thanks for giving me
ug-bosug-subscribe.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Hi sri ram,

How are you. I hope SUN TECH DAYS went fine for you. I have attended
your seminar, it was very informative.

Thank you.

I have installed Solaris and facing some problems.

What did you install? BeleniX or Solaris Express?

Installation was fine but when I login into the root. It stopped me
accessing the HOME directory. So I thought that, we cannot access HOME
from root then I tried to create users, but it is not creating any.

Now

I am getting problem in downloading software because no disk space
allowed to use.

HOME is what? How did you create users...using useradd?
If so pls send me the error msgs.
Can you also run the following cmds and send me the o/p?

uname -a
df -kh

(you can join ug-bosug and send such queries directly.
send a blank mail to ug-bosug-subscribe at opensolaris.org
also join ug-hosug-subscribe at opensolaris.org)

Regards,
~Sriram

So please can you help me, how should I create users in solaris.

Thanks you very much.
