Let's have a look at the Ubuntu Migration Assistant in greater detail, 
I'm pretty sure it cant be that tough.
As for the linux-specific stuff, i'm sure ppl can ask here for doubts.
I know quite a few people on this list are equally comfortable with Solaris 
and Linux
