[ug-bosug] OpenSolaris HackCenter at FOSS

BOSUG,

As you all know OpenSolaris Project Days is on Dec 4th, the first day of 
the conference. This is a great opportunity to learn 'How to contribute 
to OpenSolaris', ofcourse.

Now, to make it even more effective, let us use the HackCenter facility 
at FOSS to help the Project Days audience to actually get some hands on 
experience at building/contributing to OpenSolaris. The idea is to work 
on fixing some OpenSolaris bugs. We could work on integrating the fixes 
with the help of OpenSolaris sponsors later, but the main focus will be 
on giving hands-on experience to the interested folks with some experts 
around.

We can conduct this activity on any day of the conference and also we 
could do it on multiple days if required. I believe after the Project 
Days one of the Expo (6,7,8) days will be better to get more 
participation. We could also consider Dec 5th if we can get enough 
numbers. any comments/suggestions are most welcome here.

This mail is a heads-up to all those on bosug alias who plans to attend 
OpenSolaris project days. I would like to encourage all of them to 
participate in this exercise. This is an excellent opportunity for all 
the Code For Freedom Contest participants here.
Please *Drop me a mail if you are keen on participating*, this will help 
us work out the logistics better and dont forget to TELL YOUR FRIENDS. I 
shall send out another email soon once we decide on other logistics, 
which can be forwarded.

Currently, we are a small team (all bosug members from Sun) working on 
this activity, but it is going to be a big challenge to manage such an 
event and we need help from other bosug members to work on build tools, 
handouts, posters and managing this activity at FOSS. So, let me know if 
you are willing to work with us on this activity.

Please note that there will be very few desktops at the hackCenter 
facility, so laptops are preferred. We will be providing the Solaris 
Live media to work on the bugs. So, If you are interested but cannot get 
laptops, please mention that in your email.

Getting direct contribution to OpenSolaris through such an activity is 
very exciting and let us make it a big success!
