Thanks for setting this session and to those you attended!
As I mentioned towards the end of the talk, at the end of this mail is
a list of enhancements that folks interested in development can take a
look (this is a partial list, we plan to update the crossbow page
on opensolaris - http://opensolaris.org/os/project/crossbow/ to
make this list available)
[Please subscribe using crossbow-discuss-subscribe at opensolaris.org to
keep track of the progress of crossbow]
The current source is available as netvirt-src-20080310.tar.bz2 from
http://opensolaris.org/os/project/crossbow/snapshots (we are working
on making the mercurial gate available) along with binaries.
thanks,
-venu
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Low complexity
-----------------
Add dtrace probes for flows
Need mdb walkers for the flow table and rings
flowadm remove-flow -l link does not work
Suport direction aware resource controls
Support ranges of port numbers with flow specifications
Add the '-v' option to flowadm/dladm show-usage
xVM config tools need to pass a string name for vnics they create
use mod_hash_t instead of ad-hoc mac_chain_t for chaining ring descriptors
Bypass queuing/bandwidth controls for latency sensitive packets like heartbeats
Medium complexity
-----------------
Implement RED policy for crossbow
Add diff-serv flowID on outgoing packets
libdladm config/stat API
Support OR rules for flows classification
dladm show-dev should display h/w resources
Add SNMP support for flows
Support flows from non global zone
Need a detection and self recovery mechanism for transcient flows startup failures
High complexity
---------------
need hardware classification support for subflows
Link and flow properties for workload characterization
Support sub-megabit bandwidth limits
Add/remove ring to/from groups driver entry points
Support for Bandwidth Guarantee
Layer 7 Classification
Support migration of VNICs
Transparent/automatic VNIC creation during Zone booting (a la Xen)
