On my laptop (Acer Aspire 2920) , the bluetooth light turns on when I press
the bluetooth button.
Heck, it even switches off when I press it the second time ( just like it
does in Ubuntu and XP )

Interestingly, I observe the same behavior on for the wifi button as well;
but Wifi works without a hitch.
It probably just the hardware receiving power, as you mentioned
