[ug-bosug] system upgrade ,needed help!

Here are the typical times:
- Power-ON to Grub Screen: 5 sec
- Grub screen: 15 seconds (It goes from CentOS grub to Solaris Grub, hence
it is more. This is in case of an unattended system. If you hit a couple of
Enters, then this is zero.)
- OpenSolaris Boot Time: 55seconds (Including services like webconsole.)
This is Build 72. Other builds may have slightly different times.
So I am up to login screen within 1.5 minutes if I leave the system
unattended. Much faster if I hit Enters when grub shows up.
Here are some other response times during sparsely populated conditions:
- Time from I enter my password to responsive enough GNOME desktop: 15
seconds
- OpenOffice: 10-15 seconds
- Netbeans 6.0: 45 seconds
Cost: Depends on who you buy it from. I bought it from an off-the-street
vendor by hand picking the components. He assembled the box. Excluding the
monitor, it would have been 16K. I bought used memory and the cost is much
lower. I am talking about Sep 2007. Now the costs would be lower. I got one
DVD Writer and another CD-Writer/DVD-ROM combo. You may save about 1K there
if you are going for just the DVD writer.
Overall, I took a risk by not going for a branded system and the cost is
about 30% lower, as per the rates of that time. Based on the system
performance so far, that is a good decision.
