Subject: Location for April 11 Meeting of OS_GLUG

Fellow GLUG'ers,

We've decided to make this month's meeting a little less formal (as if
we were formal before).  We're going to meet tomorrow night (April 11)
at 7PM, at the Famous Dave's Barbecue in Addison.  They've got several
small dining rooms, and they're going to set us up in one of them.
There'll be no formal presentations:  just talk about OpenSolaris and
make future plans for the group.  The speaker for this month's Sun
Breakfast meeting (Linda Kateley) is planning on attending, so I'm sure
she won't mind if you pick her brain some more on this month's topic.

We'll just order off the menu.  (I wouldn't count on Sun picking up the
tab this time.  :-)  )  Of course, if you'd rather not eat, that's OK
too.  I've told them to expect about a dozen.  They're going to set up a
Captain's table, so we can all see each other.  I'd appreciate it if
you'd RSVP by replying to this E-mail. (just to me is fine)  If the
count is going to be significantly different, they'd like to know that.
At the same time, if you fail to RSVP, but decide to drop by at the last
minute, feel free.

The other things we've tossed around that need further discussion are:
     1. What format future meetings should take. (presentations,
        restaurants, universities, installation party, etc)
     2. A Solaris project for the Chicago area that GLUG can make their own.
     3. Someone to manage the web site.

and anything else you want to talk about.

More about Eric and virtual memory - Eric Lowe is a staff engineer in
the Solaris Kernel Development group at Sun Microsystems. Eric has
worked on virtual memory in Sun engineering for over five years,
participating in NUMA optimizations, large page support, and SPARC
platform-specific virtual memory handling improvements.  Eric is
currently co-lead/architect of the completely new Solaris virtual
memory system, codenamed "gemsbak".

More about BrandZ - BrandZ is a framework that extends the Solaris
Containers (Zones) infrastructure to create zones running non-native
operating environments. With BrandZ, you can run your unmodified Linux
applications in a Solaris Container taking advantage of the unique

We're coming up on the 1 year anniversary for opensolaris.org...and so 
much has GROWN since June 14th 2005!  We have so many members, and 
projects thriving, and user groups in fabulous locations around the globe.

The OpenSolaris marketing team is starting to plan a few things to 
celebrate this great milestone--yes, t-shirts!  But we also were 
thinking about how we can create a worldwide celebration--Hopefully Some 
of the user groups may be planning a special meeting--and the idea of 
doing a webcast has also been suggested.
So please, let us know what you might be considering--

Would a webcast be cool?
Who would you like to see present on a webcast? What technical topic is 
of most interest?
Will you be holding a celebration meeting?
How many attendees would you expect at your meeting?

Looking forward to getting more of our planning underway!

Hi Laura,

BigAdmin would like to celebrate with you.  I believe we are planning a 
notice in the newsletter, but there's a few more things we could do on 
the site itself if you could put together some OpenSolaris content of 
interest to administrators.  For instance....
   
    - Instructions for installing OpenSolaris on SPARC, Intel, and Mac
    - A list of the different distributions and where to get them
    - How to run OpenSolaris securely
    - etc

We focus on helping admins adopt, deploy, and maintain their products, 
so if you have content that fits those guidelines, we'd love to publish 
it.   You can use that content to drive more administrators to your site. 

One caveat: we've been pretty busy lately, so we'd need the content 
right away to be ready in June.
