From the project proposal to announcement, you can see the email thread: http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=18417&tstart=25 Really the best place to learn more about the project is its website: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/glossary/ Many of the existing terms in the glossary are translated into conventional Solaris languages: fr, de, it, es, sv, ja, ko, zh, zh_TW. You can see them once you get to the glossary wiki. Some translations also exist for pt_BR, but not nearly as many as the other languages. It's a huge time and labor commitment to translate a whole documentation into a language, but translating a term and a definition is rather an easier and a faster contribution you can make. The idea is to expand the content to Polish, Czech, Hindi, etc. In addition to your contribution, any ideas and suggestions on the project are welcome! Please use i18n-discuss to forward your suggestions. More people who work on the project are subscribed there. Thank you! Atte. Gustavo H. Message-ID: <458C528E.8090102@Sun.COM> (Hi! I'm passing on this announcement from Ienup who's not available at the moment. Please read on the good news. :-) Happy holidays!) Hello, I'm delighted to have an honor to announce that we, Sun G11N, have open sourced Solaris G11N source code at OpenSolaris.org and the source code can be found from the following: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/int_localization/sources/ The README (Release Note) file with detail information on how to build is available also at the following: http://dlc.sun.com/osol/g11n/downloads/current/README.opensolaris.g11n Our main focus on the initial source release was on the OS locales and system libraries including numerous iconv code conversions. The message translation sources which have been provided in dedicated tarballs in the past are now part of the new tarball. We are not yet done; we have still many components that we are moving from closed to open side as we speak, and we will also open up the SVN source tree soon as the next step. Even before this milestone, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada locales were already contributed. With these codes open now, we hope to see more and more activities around locales and languages in OpenSolaris. Let's make OpenSolaris approachable from anywhere in the world! :-) If you have any comment, question, suggestion, and so on, i18n-discuss at opensolaris.org would be the best place to start. We also have many language group mailing lists as follows: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/int_localization/discussions/ I would like to use this chance to acknowledge the core team members who made this possible and who are working diligently right now to bring the SVN source tree to out in the open. Without their contributions and dedication, I don't think we would have been able to announce this humble but historic start. Here are the names of the core members in alphabetical order: Elizabeth McArthur Kieran Colfer Osamu Sayama Simford Dong Takeshi Asano Valerie Alabanza The project team also received numerous contributions and help from many people and some folks are from outside of the company: Alan Coopersmith Ales Cernosek Alexander Kuzmin Andrew Josey Bonnie Corwin Brian Yuan Ca Saundra Lowery Chookij Vanatham Chris Nadan Damien Donlon Dermot Malone Gavin Tu Ervin Yan Fuyuki Hasegawa Jack Kang Jacqueline Hansson Josh Shey Kenji Tachibana Kimm Yeo Kiyofumi Tanaka Leann Pugsley Liang-Hui Yang Linda Park Margaret Powers Mimi Hills Noel Franus Patty O'brien Peter Nugent Peter Srivaree-Ratana Pete Wang Rich Burridge Rosemary Maginniss Shinobu Matsuzuka Steve Holden Suresh Chandrasekharan Tom Garland Wenling Chen Winnie Luk Yandong Yao Young J.
