[ug-bosug] Installing Opensolaris Part 2

Hi Ananth,

I think the installer is confused with the partition ID. The 0x82 is
used as the Linux Swap partition ID and also for the old Solaris
partition. Try making a primary partition of type 0xBF for Solaris and
it should work.

I have Software Express for Solaris installed with four other Operating
Systems (including FreeBSD!) on my PC and it works quite fine.

Regards,
Indrajit

i chose the custom install and it allowed me to edit the partitions...
however, each time i deleted an old partition and created a new one, it
kept showing them as PRI_DOS ( primary dos partition, i guess) ...
there was no option to change the type to a Solaris partition...
however, by a wild chance, i happened to have a linux swap partition in
the same drive and it was showing as type SOLARIS. so booted back to
linux, created the partitions under linux and changed them to linux
swap... which finally was detected under solaris... and i was ready to
install again...

but it concked out in the screen saying unable to create root
filesystem. error: filesystem could not be created... and just got
stuck.

i tried it out twice and finally decided to just delete the whole thing
and installed freebsd. the whole thing was installed in less than 5 mins
without any issues. quite smooth...

i hope that once belenix has matured a bit more i could give solaris
another chance later on... right now, i dont think solaris
(express, belenix, whatever) likes to install on machines with other
os'es... :=)
