A couple of us had considered it some time back, and I was interested...
The UUASC has been non-denominational, and that helps to get the Solaris
message out wider by taking possible Solaris content and rolling it in
to that group. However, there are some pretty core things we've never
covered (i.e. building, patching, modifying something, BFUs, etc.).
Ironically, a number of Solaris developers in the El Segundo office.
Some of those folks have decades of Unix experience on x86 hardware and
with Solaris. It'd be good to leverage it.
Having said all of that, I just never got around to taking the time to
do all of the upfront stuff needed to get a UG going.
What do you think of getting a mailing list and a web page going,
getting interested parties to join the mailing list then perhaps put on
a couple of programs and see if we can get a regular group going from there?
I can definitely sponsor the space in the El Segundo, Irvine or
Universal City Sun offices. El Segundo and Irvine, in that order, have
the best facilities.
I vote SoCalOSUG btw. :)
