Hi Folks,

   As you'd already know, SUN is a platinum sponsor for FOSS.IN and is
participating in a big way. We'd like to welcome the Bosug community to
FOSS.IN and are looking forward to assistance from you folks. You can
help us in demonstrating and talking about the various technologies and
sharing your experiences with the crowd.

Try to create some publicity. Tell your friends, colleges, blog about it
etc.
Also it will be great if you folks can come up with animations, graphics/
artwork, short write-ups that can be handed out to interested folks etc.

Here's a summary of what we are planning and what is needed. Obviously,
suggestions/comments from you folks are welcome.

===== BOSUG Meet Saturday Agenda =====
So we need to hold a special BOSUG planning meeting this Saturday,
same time and same venue; Starts at 6:30PM at SUN Microsystems,
Divyasree Chambers, Ground Floor, Himalaya conference room.

As usual please email me directly if you are coming to the Bosug meet.

===== SUN's planned activities =====
Here is a brief on the current plan of SUN's activities at FOSS.IN:

SUN is getting one whole day of talks via a SUN track on Saturday in
the 120 seater hall. There will of course be other talks running in other
halls concurrently. This only means that all the SUN technology talks
will happen on Saturday.

We will be getting booth space inside the Auditorium, opposite to the
entrance. It appears to be big enough (as big as last time) for our
purposes.

We are planning to have 5 demo workstations and some rack-mounted
machines and a whole bunch of laptops, using which we will be demoing
a bunch of OpenSolaris and Java related technologies. We will need at
least 4 volunteers per demo - not all at once but during different times of
the day to share the load in a round robin fashion. We are planning for
10 demos. The list is given below.

We are also going to have posters and banners. You can see the
OpenSolaris poster that I, Gangadhar and Ananth came up with here:

List of SUN Talks (http://foss.in/2006/info/02-Nov-2006_Final_List_of_talks)
=======================================================
* Open Source Portal
* Apache Derby
* Application Perf Tuning on OpenSolaris using DTrace
* Building an open source Java EE 5 application server - Project GlassFish
* BrandZ: A framework for non-native vitualized operating enviroment in
   OpenSolaris
* Overview of Open Web Single Sign-On

List of Demos being planned
====================
* Predictive Self Healing for Solaris (Fault Management Architecture)
* Using Derby in Network and Embedded Mode and in PDA
* Grid Engine
* ZFS (This demo is a bit long)
* Looking Glass (3D Desktop), Open Office and Booting Belenix
   from USB
* Open Source Portlet Container and Netbeans portlet plugin (Portal
   Server)
* Developing Java EE application using NetBeans and GlassFish
* Virtualization on Solaris
* OpenJDK

Obviously there will be other stuff like DTrace that we will need to
show to folks on an on-demand basis.

Please plan to attend this week's Bosug meet. Last FOSS.IN we had a huge
inflow
of crowd during our talks and at the booth mostly during the afternoons.
This time
the conference is on a weekend, so we are expecting a bigger crowd at
FOSS.IN!
Your presence at the SUN booth will help in many ways: manage crowd, demos,
morale booster :), help grow community etc. etc.

Regards,
Moinak.
