Scott,
I haven't been to a UniForum Chicago meeting in several years but would like to make a topic suggestion, if I may.
I'm sure you know of Sun Microsystems release, several months ago, of source code for its Solaris 10 operating system. The OpenSolaris project (www.opensolaris.org) has exposed a lot of cutting-edge technology for all to see, study, and modify. It would be fascinating to have a UniForum meeting relating to this project.
I know for a fact that there are people at Sun who would be eager to make a technically oriented presentation relating to OpenSolaris at a UniForum Chicago meeting. I recently found out -- after the fact -- that a new local OpenSolaris users group was having its first meeting in October. I suggested they make a presentation at UniForum. The leader of the group wrote back saying he was favorable to this but that he would need a contact.
There is so much innovation in Solaris 10/OpenSolaris that it would be hard to decide which features to address in a single meeting. The most dazzling, in my view, are dynamic tracing, containers, predictive self healing, secure execution, and the soon-to-be-released Zettabyte File System. Each of these features addresses difficult problems in distinct and novel ways that positively differentiate them from analogous features in other operating systems.
I hope you agree that there is a great deal that is exciting and fascinating in Solaris 10/OpenSolaris from which to draw for future UniForum Chicago meetings. If you do, please contact Eric Boutilier at Sun (Eric.Boutilier at Sun.COM). I see you don't have any meeting topics listed past this month. I'm sure Eric could set something up in short order and would be eager to do so.
Sincerely,
David H. Braun, MultiTask ComputerWorks

P.S. -- A C.C. would be appreciated if you write Eric. I would surely attend if you arrange such a meeting.
