I don't think that such questions really make sense without a particular workload in mind and some kind of performance test or metric that's of value. In other words, if you really need to know this, then you probably need to run your own tests to determine what matters to you. (In many cases, the limiting factors are not even in the OS itself -- disk rotation rates, networking bandwidth, and CPU speed can each easily be the bottleneck.) For what it's worth, I think there are several misunderstandings underlying this question: - There's no equivalence between Solaris 10 and Solaris Express. None. You can't pick some point in Solaris 10 (such as Update 3) and compare it against some build of Solaris Express. They're separate trains and thus incommensurate. They have different content. What you *can* do is to say that Nevada build 74 closes today, and thus build 50 is about 24 builds or 48 weeks old. It's approaching its first birthday, which means that if you're running it anywhere, that's probably a mistake. It's quite out of date. - Solaris Express contains the result of compiling and packaging the current latest-and-greatest Nevada bits. That's where we're doing active development, and it's what's running on our own servers. The Solaris 10 updates contain the things that have been backported to S10, which are primarily bug fixes but also a few selected features where required for certain customers. S10 is what our IT group mostly uses. If you're interested in getting the latest and greatest -- in terms of features or performance -- then I'd certainly recommend Solaris Express if you can use it. -- James Carlson, Solaris Networking Sun Microsystems / 1 Network Drive 71.232W Vox +1 781 442 2084 MS UBUR02-212 / Burlington MA 01803-2757 42.496N Fax +1 781 442 1677 From Xinfeng.Liu at Sun.COM Wed Sep 26 21:17:54 2007 From: Xinfeng.Liu at Sun.COM (Xin-Feng Liu) Date: Thu, 27 Sep 2007 12:17:54 +0800 Subject: [ug-shosug] =?gb2312?b?b3BlbnNvbGFyaXMgvLzK9cjVICjJz7qjLCAxMNTC?= =?gb2312?b?MjXI1aOpw+K30bLOvNM=?= Message-ID: <46FB2EF2.4020202@Sun.COM> ?????????????????????? ??????http://www.suntechdays.cn/ ??????10??25?????????? 9:00 ?C OpenSolaris???????????? 9:10 ?C ??????OpenSolaris 10:10 ?C ??????Solaris Nevada 11:15 OpenSolaris?????????????? 12:15 ?C OpenSolaris???????????? 1:15 ?C ???? 2:15 ?C ?????????????????????? -- ?????????? 3:15 User group???? ??????????user group????????????????????????????????????????topic???? ????????????????????
