Project owners don`t have access to that title field current site, only
site admins do. So, an admin would have to go through the list and
rename/resave all the Projects/Communities. It`s not a big deal, really.

Doing this for the OSUGs was easy because they are all based on the same
naming convention [(geography] OpenSolaris User Group, but the
Projects/Communities are not so the inconsistency may make for some
decision making. However, the only thing necessary is to shorten the
title enough so it remains descriptive but also fits on one line in the
nav. Leaders can then use whatever long name they want on the top of
their Project/Community spaces (in the body of the page, not in the
title of the page). I think when we create new collectives we should
have a character count for the title of the collective itself so we keep
to one line to get started. I will put that in the Collective Life Cycle
Instructions. But keep in mind that on the new site Leaders have the
ability to change that title to whatever they want, so there is no
guarantee that people will keep to text that fits on one line in the
left nav.

If people want, I can work my way through the list and update the
titles. Some are obvious and easy, of course, but I would need help
deciding on many others. Also, people can email us with a new title and
I can just insert it. And if people hate my change I can just update it.
Many ways to go. Keep in mind that the /names/ of collectives can not be
changed. That`s the ending URL. Only the /titles/ can be changed. That`s
the text at the very top of each collective after the Project or
Community designation on the current site:

OpenSolaris Project: XXX
OpenSolaris Community: XXX

Jim
